We make Gr5 titanium screws, and this is a question we hear a lot: why do high-end engineering fasteners use titanium alloy? Here are the four main reasons.
1. Lightweight (the biggest one)
Titanium is about 60% as dense as steel. At the same strength, titanium screws weigh almost 40% less than steel screws. In aviation, construction machinery and new energy equipment, titanium alloy screws reduce load, fuel use and moving load. For high-end equipment, that weight saving matters a lot.
2. High strength + fatigue resistance
TC4 (Gr5 titanium alloy) strength is close to medium carbon steel. Its strength-to-weight ratio is much higher than stainless steel and aluminum alloy. In vibration conditions—engines, wind power, locomotives—TC4 titanium screws and Gr5 titanium screws resist fatigue cracking much better than ordinary fasteners. They are less likely to loosen, fall off or break under repeated load.
3. Excellent corrosion resistance
At room temperature, titanium alloy resists acid, alkali, seawater, wet oil and gas, and industrial corrosion. It does not rust or have electrochemical corrosion. For marine equipment, chemical equipment, outdoor wind power and aerospace fasteners, no extra zinc plating or anti-rust coating is needed. Corrosion resistant titanium screws can last 3–5 times longer than stainless steel screws outdoors.
4. Heat, Cold, and No Magnetic Interference
Titanium screws keep working from -200°C to 450°C. Over that range, strength and performance do not change much. That’s why they are common in aircraft engines and high-temperature equipment.
They are non-magnetic. In precision instruments, electromagnetic equipment, and military equipment, this means no magnetic interference.
Titanium also expands and shrinks less when the temperature changes. So the bolt stays tight. In precision assembly, it holds its position and does not shift.
This is one reason why non-magnetic titanium screws work well in precision jobs.
As a titanium screw manufacturer, we supply TC4 titanium screws, Gr5 titanium screws, custom titanium alloy screws and titanium alloy fasteners.
